Onhan nefroosia! / It is NS after all!

Rehab from hell.

Hmm.

Viikon aikana olen vaihtoehtoihmisenä lukenut paljon ravinnosta.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

THE FEARED DEAD-LINE MORNING AND THE WEIGHT IS 22.7 KG´S!!!!

If it is possible for the doctor´s to have an even wider smile, we see it this morning. No need for a biopsy, the medication is working since the weight is coming down, and due to that fact, the diagnosis is confirmed as Nephrotic syndrome. Feels funny to be happy about this.

Feeling really happy. The day gets even better with a visit from the hospital clowns. A charitable organisation that does amazing work, making sick children smile and forget about their illness for a while. L had a great time as did I, even though am very afraid of clowns usually, they freak me out. The doc´s come round again to tell us they are lowering the doses on the medication and she doesn´t need to have any medicine during the night so... WE GET TO GO HOME FOR THE NIGHT!

Oh my, feels like winning the lottery. Sleep, wonder if I remember how it feels like to sleep. Also, can have a beer. Or two. My friend joked that I was basically in recovery since I hadn´t had a chance to have my evening beer for so long:) Rehab from hell.

There is a post online saying we could be eligible for a goverment fund for chronically ill children. I wonder if anyone from the hospital would have told us this. This seems to be a fun "find-things-out-for-yourself"-game.

L is sounding a lot like the Chipmunks, her voice is very high and nasal. The doc´s say this is probably due to the possible infection she had. Not due to the medication they insist. But there is a big article in today´s paper of a famous singer who treats her voice with cortisone medication. Hmm.

I am into alternative medication and am interested in all things natural. I have been reading a lot of articles on diets and food that benefits kidney patients. The hospital food is is crap (no offense) and they give out sugary juice boxes and ice cream to kids here. I can surely understand the spirit raising thought behind this, but it wouldn´t be what I would be giving my child if ill. I have asked doctor´s and nurses if there is a diet we should be following or if there are any foods we should be avoiding, like salt for instance?

The answer has always been no, carry on with your usual diet. I find it very hard to believe, that since the kidneys are in charge of getting rid of all the waste products in our body, what you put in that body wouldn´t matter one bit. I mean, how do they know if our usual diet consisted of ready-made pizzas with a box of sweets for dessert flushed down with a diet Coke?

More on food later, but here´s a few good links I found on kidney diets:
