Home sweet home

Pääsimme kotiin 2 päivän lomalle! Sairaalapaikka pidetään meille perjantaihin asti varattuna ja bumerangina sairaalaan jos jotain tulee. Aamulla annettiin viimeiset albumiinit suoneen, kotiin annettiin Losecit ja Prednisolit. Pissaa ei tarvitse edes enää mitata eikä juotuja nesteitä, kunhan katsoo että ei juo yli 1,8 l päivässä. Seuraava kontrolli perjantai-aamuna. Kanyyli jätettiin vielä käteen, jos perjantaina pitää ottaa vielä suonensisäisesti jotain. Aamupaino oli 21,5 eli voisi sanoa normaali. Olo oli mahtava kunnes.... kysyin lääkäriltä saisinko sitten reseptit kuuden viikon Prednisoleihin. Kyllä, neljän kuukauden Prednisoleihin.


ANTEEKSI MITÄ?


Minulle on koko ajan puhuttu kuudesta viikosta. Lääkäri sitten "ehkä selitti asian epäselvästi". Toim. huom. lääkärit eivät missään vaiheessa ole selittäneet yhtään mitään, kaikki on pitänyt itse ottaa selville, myös kuuluisan Prednisolin ihanan mahtavat sivuoireet. Maailma romahti ja purskahdin itkuun. Kolme - neljä kuukautta lääkitystä. Myös Loseccia niin kauan kuin Prednisolia.


L kysyi miksi itken. Koska olen niin onnellinen että pääsemme kotiin.

Yleiset haittavaikutukset  (harvemmalla kuin yhdellä 10:stä):
 

• elimistön oman ACTH ja kortisolierityksen estyminen (pitkäaikaiskäytössä), Cushingin oireyhtymän oireet (vartalon ja kasvojen pyöristyminen ["kuukasvot"], lihasten surkastuminen), sokeritaudin ilmaantuminen tai paheneminen


• infektioille herkistyminen, infektion oireiden peittyminen 



• matala veren kaliumpitoisuus, natriumin liiallinen kertyminen elimistöön



• verenpaineen kohoaminen



• ihon oheneminen, kudosvaurioiden paranemisen hidastuminen ja arpeutuminen, akne, ihon arpijuovat, mustelmaherkkyys, mustelmat



• lihasten surkastuminen, luukato



• kasvun hidastuminen lapsilla, turvotus.

Melko harvinaiset haittavaikutukset  (harvemmalla kuin yhdellä 100:sta):

• ruokahalun lisääntyminen, mielialan vaihtelut, masennus, mania (poikkeavasti kohonnut mieliala, ärtyisyys, voimakas aktiivisuus, puheliaisuus, ajatuksen riento ja kohonnut itsetunto), psykoosit, unettomuus



• silmänpaineen kohoaminen (glaukooma), kaihi



• verisuonitukokset.

We were realeased from hospital today for a two day "minibreak". They would keep the bed for us, and if she got any worse, we should go right back. The best minibreak deal of my life!


Last albumin drip in the morning, pills to take home and off we were. No need to measure the pee any more, or the intake of fluids, just make sure she doesn´t drink over 1,8 l a day, they said. Next check-up Friday morning 7.30am. They left the drip on her arm just in case she needed more albumin on Friday. Her weight was 21,5 kg so basically normal, and she looks normal too.


I was feeling really happy untill I asked, if on Friday we would get the prescriptions for the 6 weeks of Prednison. Yes, they told me. Prescriptions for the four months.


WHAT??????


Nobody, I repeat, nobody said nothing about months!!! Six weeks, that was all we had been talking about, six weeks. I had thought that in that six weeks she would be tapered down off Pred completely. So if she would have side-effects, they would be over and done with after the six weeks.


I burst into tears while the doctor kept apologizing that she had been so vague and unclear about this. She was to be on the high dose of 50mg a day for SIX WEEKS and then tapered down in three to four months. She was to take Losec too, for as long as she was on Pred.


L asked why I was crying. I told her I was so happy to go home.

Prednisone may cause side effects. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

• headache
• dizziness
• difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
• inappropriate happiness
• extreme changes in mood
• changes in personality
• bulging eyes
• acne
• thin, fragile skin
• red or purple blotches or lines under the skin
• slowed healing of cuts and bruises
• increased hair growth
• changes in the way fat is spread around the body
• extreme tiredness
• weak muscles
• irregular or absent menstrual periods
• decreased sexual desire
• heartburn
• increased sweating

Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately:

• vision problems
• eye pain, redness, or tearing
• sore throat, fever, chills, cough, or other signs of infection
• seizures
• depression
• loss of contact with reality
• confusion
• muscle twitching or tightening
• shaking of the hands that you cannot control
• numbness, burning, or tingling in the face, arms, legs, feet, or hands
• upset stomach
• vomiting
• lightheadedness
• irregular heartbeat
• sudden weight gain
• shortness of breath, especially during the night
• dry, hacking cough
• swelling or pain in the stomach
• swelling of the eyes, face, lips, tongue, throat, arms, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
• difficulty breathing or swallowing
• rash
• hives
• itching

Prednisone may slow growth and development in children. Your child's doctor will watch his or her growth carefully. Talk to your child's doctor about the risks of giving prednisone to your child.
Prednisone may increase the risk that you will develop osteoporosis. Talk to your doctor about the risks of taking prednisone and about things that you can do to decrease the chance that you will develop osteoporosis.
Some patients who took prednisone or similar medications developed a type of cancer called Kaposi's sarcoma. Talk to your doctor about the risks of taking prednisone.
