Jännitystä elämään / Emotional rollercoaster

Minulta kysytään miten jaksan. Hyvin jaksan. Kai.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Everyone is asking me how I´m holding up. Just fine. I guess. A little scared. Anxious about this tapering business. Scared that the pee stick is the wrong colour. Stressed that her face and body swelling won´t go down before school starts. Emotional at her braveness with this all. Worried about her. Full of love for her. Happy with good results, scared of them turning bad. A little angry this happened to my daughter.

Hoping everything goes well with this 35mg dosage. Petrified she will relapse with the next dosage. Really anxious about the 20mg dosage, since that seems to be the magic number for relapse. Scared about the results of the ACTH-test. Nervous about her getting to the 5mg dosage.

Overwhelmed with the uncertainty of the future. If she does get off the stupid (yet lifesaving) steroids, then the ongoing, never ending excitement of will she relapse? When will she relapse? Will she relapse once, twice, ten times? If she relapses often, will she become steroid dependant? Will she have to try different drugs? Will she be cured by her teens, or will she have this for the rest of her life?

How will we handle the setback if she does relapse? How will SHE handle it? She is the one suffering, having tests done, living with the side effects of steroids, the puffiness, the weight gain, the diet, the sweating, the trouble sleeping, the tiredness and the mood swings.

RELAPSE would be a setback from hell.

I can already assure you, that I will not be doing fine if she relapses. All the statistics are telling me the relapse is lurking around the corner. There seems to be no way for preparing for that, mentally. I read the support group parents stories, stories that speak of even a dozen relapses, and I don´t get how those parents handle it.

How am I going to handle it?

I am riding this emotional rollercoaster, screaming and frightened and really hoping the ride will end soon! I will NOT be buying another ticket.
