Ensimmäiset oireet / The first symptons

Perjantaina 25.5 L valitteli silmiään ja ne olivatkin aika turvonneet. L ei paljoa valita, itseasiassa mistään, joten otin asian tosissani, varsinkin kun oli jo viikkojen ajan huomatellut miten hänellä oli omasta mielestään "hassut silmät". L oli lähdössä mökille viikonlopuksi, joten käytiin apteekissa ja farmaseutin avulla ostettiin Heinixiä. L ei ole millekään muulle allerginen kuin joulukuuselle, joten allerginen reaktio oli ainoa järkevä selitys silmien turpoamiselle. Farmaseutti sanoi, että tänä vuonna on ollut niin korkeat siitepöly-arvot, että moni on herkistynyt ensimmäistä kertaa. Joulukuusi-allergia taustalla tähän diagnoosiin päädyttiin.

Sunnuntaina 27.5 L oli edelleen turvonnut, myös poskista. Heinix ei ollut auttanut. L:n isä oli googlaillut ja soitellut terveysneuvontaan, josta sanottiin, että turvotus lapsella pitää ottaa vakavasti. Menimme päivystykseen, jossa oli 4 tunnin jono ja kuulemma sunnuntaina ei otettaisi tulehdusarvoja. Lähdimme kotiin aikeenamme viedä tyttö Mehiläiseen yksityiselle lääkärille.

Maanantaina 28.5 L näytti ihan samalta (vai olimmeko jo tottuneet silmiin?) ja päivä oli kiireinen ja olin itsekin kipeä, emmekä menneet lääkäriin.

Tiistaina 29.5 menimme molemmat Mehiläiseen, minulla kurkunpään tulehdus ja tyttö laitettiin nieluviljelyyn ja tulehdusarvot katsottiin. Lääkäri sanoi: "Hyviä uutisia, tämä on virus, tulehdusarvot ovat koholla ja tämä on varmasti joku kehon reaktio virukseen. Heinixiä vain edelleen kahdesti päivässä."

Lapset olivat päivän lastenhoitajan kanssa puistossa. Kun kuuden aikaan isä tuli hakemaan heitä, huomasi hän heti Loten mahan turvonneen. Myös reidet olivat tuplasti normaalin kokoiset. Isä lähti viemään tyttöä takaisin Mehiläiseen. Sieltä tuli tekstiviesti, että lähtivät sairaalaan lisätesteihin. Odotin koko illan ja yön viestiä sairaalasta, ja järkytyin todella, kun keskiyön jälkeen tuli viesti, että joutuvat jäämään yöksi.

On friday the 25th, L was complaining that her eyes were swollen. The girl never complains about anything, so I took it seriously, since I could see for myself that they were puffy. L has no allergies except for getting a rash from a xmas tree. It had been a very tough spring for allergy sufferers, so I though that must be it, she had been sensitized. She was going to the summer cabin for the weekend, so we went and got her an allergy medication over the counter. It was the only logical explanation for the swollen eyes?

Sunday 27th and her eyes were still puffy and her cheeks were swollen too. The allergy medication wasn´t working. L´s father had googled and called a healt info number, and he was quite worried. They had said swelling of any kind should be taken seriously. We took her to an ER, but since it was Sunday, there was a 4 hour queue and they said they wouldn´t be doing any tests. So we went home, agreeing I would take her to the private doctor on Monday.

Monday came, she looked ok to me or had I just gotten used to her puffiness? It was a busy day and I was ill, so we stayed at home.

Tuesday 29th we both went to the doctor´s. I had laryngitis. She was taken to an inflammation test and tested for tonsillitis. The doctor said he had good news, the inflammation account was high, so it was not an allergy, it was a virus and the body reacted to the virus with allergy type symptoms. We were to take the same allergy medication and all would be good.

The kids spent the afternoon with their nanny in the park. When they came back, their father noticed L`s stomach had also swollen. Her thighs were twice the normal size. He took her straight back to the doctor´s, obviously a different one this time. He sent me a text to say they had been sent to the hospital for further tests. I was waiting anxiously for some answers, worried about her and how tired she must be. Finally after midnight I was told she had to stay the night. Bloody hell.
